Nina Balmaceda

Dr. Vilma “Nina” Balmaceda is the Director of the Center for Scholarship and Global Engagement and Associate Professor of Political Science at Nyack College and the Alliance Theological Seminary in New York. Born and raised in Lima, Peru, Nina earned her law degree at the Pontifical Catholic University’s School of Law. She holds master degrees in International Peace Studies, and in Government and International Studies and a Ph.D. in Political Science by the University of Notre Dame. She serves as a board member in several nonprofit organizations, including Advocates International, Inc., the Inter-American Federation of Christian Lawyers, and the Christian Legal Society of Peru, which she founded in 2001. She also serves as a member of the Advocates International Global Council and as Peacemaker Ministries’ Representative for Latin America. Nina is happily married to Roberto W. Chia and their son RA is 13 years old.
